Our daily routine seems hardly worth commemorating in ink – unless it be to become Nansenic. We get up at 6-7 (H. sometimes earlier), breakfast 6-8 (fish, one pancake or its equivalent in bamok, and coffee). Then H. does some “computation” work and I read arctic novels or write Eskimo stuff. In the forenoon I get three small spruces (go for them ca. 200 yrds. on my snowshoes) and H. chops them and carries in, while I get water and fill the lamp. Then we make tea for our lunch which comes ca. 12 or 1 – fish and a pancake. The afternoon is spent in reading and writing while H. “computes”. After supper (fish, pancake) at ca. 5 we play 2-3 games of chess, then I read or write while H. usually goes to bed. On certain nights we sit up – occasionally all nights we sit up for calculations (latitude, and error of watch). […]
